What happens when a Hollywood star unexpectedly rocks up in a sleepy seaside village in Scotland?
Fiery redhead Lexy was left shocked and guilt-ridden by the tragic death of her parents seven years ago. Seven years later she is still struggling to move on, and her only steady relationship is with her one true love – Brian, the border collie.
Clay Gable is weary of the demands of fame and has fled from the Hollywood hills to the tiny Scottish village of Whitehorse Bay – a delightful place he remembers from a wonderful childhood summer many moons ago.
When their paths cross, Lexy helps Clay blend in to village life, while Clay encourages Lexy to leave her unfulfilling job and chase her dream of becoming a bona fide artist.
Meanwhile, Lexy’s ex, Jamie, is acting strangely and appears to have a secret from everyone.
Can Lexy help Jamie deal with his dark secret? And is charismatic Clay Gable the one to bring Lexy’s defences crashing down?
Just as I add the finishing touches, I hear a noise behind me to the side of the house where the overgrown path is. Brian runs towards the noise and I turn around just as Jamie appears. I freeze. He’s holding an envelope in one hand and he pats Brian with the other. He clearly hasn’t seen us yet. I look over at Tom, who is bashfully shielding his nakedness with his hands, then I look back at Jamie. He looks up and stops dead in his tracks, a look of terror on his face.
Pachelbel’s Canon has finished and there are a few seconds of silence. None of us move a muscle. A nearby sheep bleats. Blood is pumping round my body at a million miles an hour and I wonder if Jamie can hear my heart pounding in the silence.
Violins begin to play the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah and I glare at the CD player as if it’s to blame for this mortifying encounter. Why did I have to take all my clothes off? Why is Jamie in my garden?
I sigh. He’s seen us now, there’s not much I can do about it.
‘Hi, Jamie,’ I smile brightly, as though this is a completely regular, everyday occurrence. ‘I didn’t know you were coming over.’
‘HA-LLELUJAH! HA-LLELUJAH! HALLELUJAH! HALLELUJAH! HALLE-LU-JAH!’
