Do you know about Noblebright Fantasy?
Noblebright Fantasy refers to stories in which the main motivation of the characters is an altruistic proposal or quest, and the world in which they live upholds hope and the possibility of better. Noblebright Fantasy Book: Fatal Heir.
“I don’t think destiny is meant to be kind. It is a cruel master.”
Donald Baines sees ghosts.
Nobody believes him, except for the mysterious stranger who shows up to save his life every time he’s in danger. And nobody believes him about the stranger, either.
When Don is arrested for crimes he didn’t commit – including treason – he finally learns the truth about his identity. He is Izayik Delaren, the long-lost heir to the throne of Aldrin.
But Aldrin is infested with the undead. And the current king will do anything to keep Izayik from reclaiming his throne. With danger lurking around every corner, Izayik must turn to the past in order to save the future of his people…
Author L. C. Ireland: What makes this book Noblebright?
Nobility in a world of darkness…
My novel Fatal Heir is set in a post-apocalyptic fantasy world in which undead creatures roam the kingdom and what remains of humanity struggles to survive. In classic fantasy style, the main character discovers that he is the heir to the throne – but his kingdom is overrun with undead monsters. He must outwit the current king’s plans to kill him while trying to protect his people and his family.
How can this story, set against such a gloomy backdrop, be considered a Noblebright Fantasy?
This is where the characters come in. Despite the dark times, the main character grows up with a firm belief in the goodness of others. He is determined to help those in need, even at great cost to himself. His desire to reclaim the throne has nothing to do with personal greed or reaching for power. His driving motivation is protecting others. If he can find the source of the undead uprising, maybe he can save his people.
Though the heroes of this story certainly have their imperfections, they all believe in the power of goodness and sacrifice. In an increasingly dangerous, cruel world, they learn that their humanity is their most valuable asset – and their greatest power.
Noblebright fantasies aren’t about perfect people in perfect worlds. They’re about imperfect people striving for goodness; much like our own world is filled with normal people trying to be their best selves.
My motivation for writing Fatal Heir was to create the kind of book I wanted to read when I was a teenager. I loved the escape of a good fantasy novel, but many of them left me feeling depressed as characters acted selfish and ruthless. I wanted characters I could look up to, characters that inspired me. That’s what drew me to Noblebright fantasies. I believe that people are inherently good and that their goodness isn’t naïve or foolish. Kindness is not weakness. It is the greatest strength of humanity.
If these ideals appeal to you, pick up a Noblebright Fantasy and enjoy an uplifting, inspiring adventure.
