His Brat by Isabella Starling

MAX: She’s off limits. The one girl I can’t have. Of course, I don’t know that when I see her for the first time, and bury myself inside her. But I’m marrying her mother…a loveless marriage that means nothing to either of us, but still means Lola Grace can’t be mine. I wouldn’t be good for her, anyway. I play hard, and f*ck harder. I’d ruin a pretty young girl like her in mere hours. But I just can’t resist…Lola Grace is too damn sweet for me to give up.

LOLA GRACE: My life changes when Max River walks into it. He complicates everything, making me regret ever setting eyes on his tall, inked and toned body. But at the same time, I can’t let go. I know the rules. No kissing. No touching. No talking. No f*cking. And I’m about to break every one of them.

2 Stars (2 / 5)

I wanted to be on board with this book in the worst way. After reading the prologue that got me all hot around the collar I was like yeah daddy bring it on. But there are so many elements to this book, it was like 50 shades meets bad boy millionaire meets hot laywer meets marriage of convenience meets murder mystery all in one. You could cut out at least six plot lines in this book and it would have been much better off.

The characters weren’t horrible. Max could have been super sexy book boyfriend material (bad boy lawyer, tattoos, lives in supercool loft) if he hadn’t been so into the jailbait. Poor Lola Grace you could open your doors to that poor creature and give her a home and a mother that loves her because that is what that little girl really needed in life.

I will give it to the author-she is really good at writing the sex scenes, in my honest opinion. If I put aside all the weird shit that was going down and just focused on the sexy parts I could think about him being a sexy Tom Hardy type of guy and I kinda liked it.

It was a full length novel but only 221 pages so it was a quick read, and it is a stand alone so that is even better.

After about 40% of the way through the book thats when things got weird. I was prepared to be down with the step-dad and step-daughter relationship but there was a couple other themes that were less than desirable, and then at the end I actually had to fight the most powerful eyeroll I’ve ever had to fight before, and that is really saying something.

He calls her Kitten and it is Oh-So-Yucky. Like if it were me I would be like stop that and don’t ever do it again.

Like I said earlier, there were so many themes and side plots in this book. Just when you get to the end more things keep getting thrown in and I just feel like there is a solid story here with good sex it just needs to be whittled down with a narrower focus and it could be so much better.

Final thoughts::Edit this book!! Take out the part with the tape!! It was seriously unnecessary and trigger worthy and pretty much horrible.

I downloaded this book for free one day when it was free on Amazon, but if you wanted to check it out you can buy it on Amazon or you can read it for free if you have Kindle Unlimited.
