(4.5 / 5)
Nobody in Hollywood takes cable television star Glinda Crawford seriously, and that’s not going to change with her next movie. What started off as a serious drama has descended into a cheesy flick about rabid, cyborg, panda assassins, and she can’t escape the insanity.
Mike Mosley has it all worked out. He’s leveraged his teen-age TV heartthrob days into a successful adult acting career. But the first week on the set of his new movie with his Olympus co-star Glinda has him second-guessing everything: the plan, his single status, and just how dangerous robot pandas can be.
When script shenanigans spill into the real world, the attraction Glinda and Mike have been faking turns into a hot, real-life adventure. If they can survive this movie, they can survive anything together. However, the shocking finale surprises them both.
I am so glad that the author of Action Hero reached out for me to read this book. It is the 5th book in a series but can be read as a stand alone novel, just like I read it. When I finished you can believe that I went and downloaded the first one too.
In Action Hero, Glinda and Mike, two co-stars on the same television series, land two leading roles opposite each other in a new dramatic movie about saving panda’s from extinction. Except what starts out to be something akin to Gorilla’s in the Mist ends up being more like Sharknado. But the two main characters manage to stick together and a little workplace romance goes a long way in this super funny RomCom.
Glinda is pretty hilarious and awkward for being so beautiful and famous, and she definitely provides most of the comedy throughout the story. During one scene she kicks a guy in the nuts so hard he has to have a testicle removed. I don’t know what that guy did to piss the author off in real life, but I’d watch my back dude. Everything about her life is hilarious too. Her sister’s name is Dorothy (Dorothy and Glinda LOL!)and despite looking like a typical Hollywood dumb blonde she is actually quite smart and intuitive (except at the end when you want to knock her in the head a little).
She and the male character Mike have pretty good chemistry in my opinion. Mike is a lot nicer then I would picture a lot of Hollywood type of guys to be, but what was refreshing the most about him is that he really and truly seemed to be just a regular guy. Maybe good looking obviously because he is an actor but the author doesn’t go on and on about it anyone’s looks and I love that. He didn’t have a monstrous wiener to ruin his partner and he didn’t think himself the king of his own universe. He was doing a job and he fell in love with this amazing woman that was put in front of him.
I loved that the plot was about actors working on set (and how all that stuff can go very wrong). I thought that part of the story was so interesting, since I haven’t read too many Hollywood romances. Even the side characters had all their funny parts too. In the end the whole book was so funny it had me laughing out loud more than a few times. It was light and entertaining, it held my attention and was never boring.
There was sex in this book but it wasn’t gratuitous and that was a welcome change for once. This story was more centered around the movie that they are making and how it plays into Glinda and Mike’s love story and not so much the steamy sex (awesome).
I was not super fond of the ending because I thought that it was a predictable twist, but it doesn’t deter me from wanting to recommend this book to others or wanting to read the other books in the series. Great book! 4.5/5 Stars.
